What it is and what it does. Stannous sulfate is the tin source of the acid tin plating bath - the fastest and brightest tin electrolyte, used for plating hardware and for solderable coatings.
- Off-white powder, soluble in dilute sulfuric acid; tin is present as Sn(II) and oxidises slowly to Sn(IV) in the bath.
- The acid bath gives a bright, dense tin deposit on a 60-100 g/L sulfuric acid base with organic additives.
- A continuous anode-tin feed and regular addition of the salt keep the divalent tin where it should be.
