What it is and what it does. Zinc nitrate is used in the make-up of neutral and mildly acidic zinc plating baths and in accelerator formulations for zinc phosphating, where the nitrate ion acts as the oxidising accelerator.
- White crystals, very soluble and deliquescent, so keep the packaging closed.
- Used together with zinc chloride to give a neutral pH zinc electrolyte with good coverage on steel.
- The nitrate ion is a strong accelerator in phosphating and is also used in effluent denitrification control.
