What it is and what it does. Cuprous cyanide is the copper source of the cyanide copper bath, used mainly for the strike layer on zinc die castings before bright acid copper or nickel.
- White to off-white powder, practically insoluble in water but soluble in excess sodium cyanide.
- Gives the thin, adherent copper strike that allows subsequent acid copper to be plated on die-cast hardware.
- As a cyanide compound it is toxic and releases hydrogen cyanide if acidified - never store near acids.
