What it is and what it does. Fragrance essence is the odour-masking additive used in lacquers and paints so that the finished hardware does not carry a solvent smell when it reaches the customer.
- Colourless to pale yellow clear liquid; dosed at a very low concentration measured in parts per thousand.
- Important for consumer products - a slider or button that smells of solvent is a quality complaint even when the coating is correct.
- Added to the lacquer at the point of mixing, never to the finished part.
