What it is and what it does. Stannous chloride is used as the tin source in alkaline and neutral tin baths, as the sensitive tin(II) source in make-up, and as the reducing agent in the palladium activation step of plating on plastics.
- White crystals that oxidise on long exposure to air; keep the drum closed and use the material in rotation.
- In plating on plastics it is the sensitising step before palladium activation, the backbone of the plating-on-plastics line.
- Added to some acid tin baths as a quick tin(II) booster.
