What it is and what it does. HEDP is a phosphonate chelant and scale inhibitor, used to keep hardness salts and metal hydroxides in solution in cleaners, in rinse water and in circulating plating-line water.
- Supplied as a 60% clear aqueous solution, weakly acidic.
- Extremely stable against hydrolysis at high temperature and pH - more so than polyphosphates.
- Used at a few g/L, where its strength is quoted either as active acid or as product - always confirm which basis the specification uses.
