What it is and what it does. Stannous pyrophosphate is the tin source of the tin pyrophosphate bath, the cyanide-free alkaline tin electrolyte used where a non-corrosive, well-throwing bath is needed.
- White powder, dissolved with potassium pyrophosphate to form the plating complex.
- Because the bath is nearly neutral it is gentle on equipment and on rack coatings.
- Sensitive to oxidation and to organic contamination, both of which give a darker, duller deposit.
