What it is and what it does. Lead acetate is used as a small but critical addition to electroless nickel and to some acid tin and lead-tin baths, where the lead ion acts as a stabiliser or as an alloying constituent.
- White crystalline solid, sweet-tasting but highly toxic - a cumulative poison.
- Used at very low concentration, typically a few milligrams per litre in electroless nickel, to control the deposition rate.
- Lead is a restricted substance in many markets; confirm the permitted limit before using it.
