What it is and what it does. Steel phosphating solution is the ready-to-use zinc phosphating bath that converts a steel surface into a crystalline phosphate layer, giving corrosion protection and an excellent key for paint or lacquer.
- Pale green to colourless liquid, used at 3-10% in water with the accelerator included.
- The phosphate coating also improves the adhesion of electrophoretic and spray coatings on hardware.
- Control is by the free acid to total acid ratio plus the bath temperature - both are simple titrations.
