What it is and what it does. Sodium gluconate is the mild, biodegradable chelant used in cleaning, in aluminium treatment and in rinse-water conditioning, where it holds iron and calcium in solution without the persistence of EDTA.
- White to light yellow crystalline powder, very soluble; readily biodegradable.
- Used in alkaline aluminium cleaners and in acid deoxidising solutions to keep iron in solution.
- Often chosen where the effluent plant must be able to break the complex down.
