What it is and what it does. Potassium sulfide is the blackening and antiquing agent for copper alloys, chemically related to sodium sulfide but with a different solubility and crystal habit.
- Yellow to brownish deliquescent lumps; keep the drum closed because it absorbs moisture and carbonates.
- Gives the dark sulfide colours used for antique finishes on brass and bronze bag hardware.
- Never acidify - hydrogen sulfide is released, which is toxic and flammable.
