What it is and what it does. Ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (butyl glycol) is the coupling solvent used in water-based cleaners and lacquers, where it dissolves oils and keeps the formulation clear.
- Colourless liquid with a mild ether odour; miscible with water and with most organic solvents.
- Extremely effective on greases and on dried lacquer films, which is why it appears in wax removers and in lacquer formulations.
- It is a combustible liquid with a moderate flash point and it must be handled with ventilation.
