What it is and what it does. Chromium plating mixture is the blended chromic acid electrolyte used for decorative chrome on zipper sliders and hardware, supplied with the catalyst balanced so that the bath can be made up in one addition.
- Dark red to brown granular solid; it is chromic acid blended with the sulfate catalyst needed to make the bath work.
- The chromic acid to sulfate ratio is the single most important control parameter in a chrome bath.
- Chromic acid mist is a serious health hazard - a fume suppressant and effective exhaust are essential.
