What it is and what it does. Ammonium chloride is the conducting and complexing salt of the ammonium chloride zinc plating bath and of some neutral systems, and it is also used in steel pickling and in the activation of zinc surfaces.
- White crystalline powder, very soluble; it forms the ammonium complex that controls zinc deposition.
- The ammonium chloride zinc bath gives excellent throw and a bright, ductile deposit after passivation.
- Volatile ammonia is released from hot baths, so tank ventilation is needed.
