Barrel Line OEE: Measuring the Real Capacity of Every Drum

Barrel Line OEE: Measuring the Real Capacity of Every Drum — 滚镀线 OEE 核算:每个滚筒真实产能的测量与提升路径.

This is a working reference, not theory: every table and checklist here is designed to be printed and used at the line. It complements the failure case studies published in the Technician Hub with the standard documents those cases eventually produced.

Load fraction
35-45% of drum volume
Current density
0.3-1 A/dm² barrel nickel
Rotation
6-12 r/min by part sensitivity

Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

MistakeWhy It HappensPractical Fix
1. Loading to full volumeParts stop tumbling, coverage failsHold 35-45% volume; weigh loads
2. Same speed for every partHeavy parts bruise, light parts carryMatch rotation to part sensitivity

Best Practices

  • Weigh every load; post the chart on the drum
  • Five-minute first-load check each shift
  • Separate drums for delicate part families

Load and Start Sequence

  1. Weigh the load - Compare to drum chart (Volume is not weight)
  2. Set current and ramp - From the loading chart (Do not exceed chart amps)
  3. 5-minute first-load check - Coverage and contact (Stop and fix before full cycle)

Barrel Loading and Current Reference

Starting reference for zinc alloy small parts in barrel nickel.

A scale on every drum

Scenario. Loads were judged by eye; first loads burned and last loads under-plated.

Action. Weigh-every-load discipline with a per-drum loading chart.

Result. Edge burns on first loads disappeared within the first week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a full drum more output?

No. Above 45% volume parts stop tumbling and coverage fails. 35-45% is the working band.

Why did edges burn on the first load?

Cold-start current without a ramp. Start at 55% of target for three minutes, then ramp.

How often should I weigh loads?

Every load. Volume estimation fails silently and consistently.
