What it is and what it does. Emery (abrasive) is the abrasive grit used for the mechanical preparation of metal surfaces, for deburring and for the polishing and satin finishing of hardware.
- Dark grey to brown abrasive grit available in a range of mesh sizes; aluminium oxide or silicon carbide based.
- Used in tumbling, in blasting and in the preparation of surfaces before plating or painting.
- The mesh size determines the surface finish and the stock removal rate, so it must be chosen for the operation.
