What it is and what it does. Potassium salt (potassium chloride type) is the conducting salt used in chloride zinc and in some nickel and cadmium baths, where it gives the conductivity with better anode corrosion behaviour and less ammonia fume than ammonium chloride.
- White crystalline powder or granules, very soluble; a widely used conducting salt in alkaline and acid zinc baths.
- The potassium ion is preferred in high-temperature zinc baths because it is less volatile than ammonium.
- Also used as the base salt for the potassium chloride zinc brightener systems.
